Scott Lyall,
Owner of Scott Lyall Clothes for Men
Scott Lyall, of Scott Lyall Clothes for Men, started his retail journey in 1981 when he opened his first store in the historic town of Benicia, CA. In 1985, at age 25, he relocated to San Francisco, CA and re-opened his store in the Spring of 1986 in the famous Filmore district. After the Loma Prieta earthquake shook the streets of the city and knocked business sales down, he decided to close in 1991. Not losing his passion for retail, he then went into the women's side of the wholesale business as an independent sales representative. Two years passed and Scott closed his showroom to do manufacturing for Esprit and Ann Taylor Loft for three years. After the passing of his father in 1997, he went back to Napa Valley and rebuilt the family's horse boarding ranch that he was raised on and worked it for nearly a decade.
In January 2011, his mother, Helen Lyall, moved her women's clothing store from Vallejo, CA to Napa Valley's Riverfront which reignited the burning love that Scott has always had for retail, resulting in the opening of his store, Scott Lyall Clothes for Men, now located next to Helen Lyall Clothes for Women on the Napa Valley Riverfront. .
"I guess it has always been in my blood to be in retail", Scott said, "My mother has taught me everything I know in the business, stressing customer service as the number one priority."
It's a very time consuming job but one that Scott truly enjoys. His customers are some of the most wonderful people you could ever have and is constantly grateful for their loyalty and friendship. He doesn't consider it work, because when you do what you love, it's not work.
